Expanded Teaching

In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts two competing sources of life: the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit.


The key issue is not simply what believers do, but what believers are being formed into.

Paul does not say “produce fruit,” but “walk by the Spirit.” Fruit grows from connection, not pressure.


The works of the flesh are plural because they fragment life and distort relationships. The fruit of the Spirit is singular because it reflects unified character shaped by the Spirit’s presence. Abiding shifts spiritual formation from behavior control to Spirit-led transformation.
