Jesus explains the reason clearly:

“Because you are not of the world…”

Remaining in Christ changes identity. When identity changes, allegiance changes. When allegiance changes, relationships with surrounding systems sometimes shift.

Jesus is not encouraging hostility toward the world. Instead, He prepares believers for the reality that faithfulness may lead to misunderstanding or rejection.

The strength to endure opposition comes from connection to Christ—not approval from culture.

Abiding stabilizes identity so that external pressure does not redefine internal conviction.
