Expository Teaching
The Great Commission is not simply a closing statement—it is a continuing mandate for the church.
Jesus begins with authority:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Disciple-making flows from Christ’s authority, not human initiative.
The primary command of the passage is:
“Make disciples”
This command is supported by three participles:
Going
Baptizing
Teaching
Disciple-making is therefore:
intentional
relational
ongoing
Jesus closes with a promise that connects directly to the ABIDE theme:
“I am with you always…”
We go because He remains with us.
Remaining produces multiplication. Believers reproduce what they remain connected to. Disciple-making becomes the natural extension of abiding.
The tension here is important:
Attendance observes faith.
Disciple-making extends faith.
Remaining in Christ ensures that what we pass on to others reflects Him.
